This site is running 'squash ladder PHP' - a web / browser based application to automate the process of running a squash or tennis ladder. Challenges are made online and the challenger and challengee receive emails to notify them of when they need to play the match by. Reminders are sent out if the game is unplayed and if no result is recorded by a certain time the match is forfeited and the challenger wins!

The ladder administrator can modify certain parameters such as the challenge period and the 'grace' period for recording results of overdue games. Furthermore there is a mini content management system so that the ladder administrator can post messages and announcements such as this one here. There is also an information page with customisable ladder rules as well as lessons, rules etc. You can even have your club logo added.

Dear Moorgate member,

I am pleased to announce that the ladder has now been set up - so let's get playing! This competition will be on-going and is open to both ladies and men of all standards, the more people the more interesting and challenging it will become. All you need to do is register on this site.

Initially, newly registered players will be added to the bottom of the ladder but will get one chance to challenge anyone on the list and place themselves where they think they belong. After the initial challenge, over time, the ladder will sort itself out and place the best players at the top.

You will have noticed a points score appear next to player names on the rankings page (if logged in). This is a trial points rating system based on the classic Elo system. Players will be awarded points for winning and lose points for losing depending on how difficult the system calculates your opponent to be. It will take a few games to settle down the scoring system. Currently the rating is displayed for information purposes only but in future it will be possible to arrange the ladder ranking system around this points score.
